3-D printing can be good and bad. It can save time but it will get rid of a lot of jobs. For example, the jewelry business. If you had a jewelry store and you were doing good then all of a sudden everyone has a 3-D printer in their house then no one comes because they can just make what you have in your store at home. It can also start new jobs too. You can create a online job. You create a website for jewelry! People go on your website create any design they want, you make it, and ship it to their house. Many people can do that job. Those that actually had a store will be put of work unless they do that or find some other job.
The materials you would need to have jewelry would be gold, silver, brass, and gems. Those prices would go up depending on the demand. Let's say it was originally $20 for 15 gems (with only a couple people with printers) then more and more people start getting printers and then it's $30 for 15 gems.
Right now to make things is expensive. If you were to get a 3-D printer and make a ball it would be $20. If you were to make one million balls it would only be a couple of pennies. The more you make the less it costs.
Three dimensional printing can change the way we do things. When normally you would go to the store to get some jewelry or shoes, you could just stay at home and make them yourself. Our culture is teaching us that is better to have something that was made quick and crappy, then to have something that is good, well put together, and takes longer. It's time over quality.
3-D printing can also change hospitals. When you need a organ or a limb (bone) you can just print one out and BOOM! You have what you need. It will an exact match of the part that you need instead of waiting a long time to find someone else that has the same thing that you can use. It's really going to change how we do things!
